Where Is Victoria Falls Located?


Victoria Falls is a waterfall on the Zambezi River in southern Africa. It is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is considered to be one of the world's largest waterfalls due to its width of 5,604 feet.


Victoria Falls is served by Victoria Falls Airport (VFA). It is located about 11 miles south of the town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.


What Makes Victoria Falls Spectacular?


While Victoria Falls is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as one of the world's largest waterfalls based on its combined width of 5,604 feet and height of 354 feet, resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling water. To put it into perspective, Victoria Falls are roughly twice the height of North America's Niagara Falls and well over twice its width.


The noise of Victoria Falls can be heard by some individuals from a distance of around 25 miles! The spray and mist created by Victoria Falls rise to over 1,300 feet and is observable by some individuals from a distance of around 30 miles!

The water level varies throughout the year; at its highest point, in March/ April, it is estimated that around 130 million gallons of water per minute flow over Victoria Falls! During the dry season, it can be as low as 2.6 million gallons of water per minute.


What Are the Weather and Climate Like?


The climate of Victoria Falls is subtropical, with mild, dry winters, and hot, muggy, and rainy summers. The hottest month to visit Victoria Falls on average is October, with the average high being around 93 °F. The coldest month to visit Victoria Falls on average is in July, with the average low being around 43 °F.


Precipitation is not abundant at Victoria Falls; but it does see a significant amount of rainfall from December to February, while it almost never rains from May to September. The wettest month on average to visit Victoria Falls is in January, with the accumulation being 6.9” of rainfall.


There is plenty of sunshine at Victoria Falls from April to October. The month with the most daily sunshine hours on average is August; the average is 10.5 hours of sunshine per day.
